“Roy is a great coach!”.
“I liked the personalised focus on ones abilities and strengths. How to overcome letdowns and focus on the goals. How to achieve greatness while getting up and trying again.”
“fun, not stressful, but teach important character traits and keep the kids moving, not a lot of standing around doing nothing, group fun but they do a good job of addressing each person individually and assisting them with what they need”
“We’ve been coming to Tsunami for about 6 months and our son loves it! The instructors are not only skilled and disciplined, but they are fun and connect with the kids. They teach the”.
“Kind and friendly instructors!”
This place has been a game changer for me! Not only are the work-outs incredible, but I'm truly learning the right techniques. Each coach is really intentional about breaking things down and pushing us to get better results. Tsunami is like family at this point. It's the first place I get excited to go sweat!
We started to take our 6year old daughter here and it’s been wonderful to have her excited about something lately. They really help the kids and make sure they stay focused and understand what’s going on. I was recommending this place to a client just today!
A great experience all around. I love the atmosphere and the professional setting. The coaches are great to work with and take time for the beginners. I have recommended this facility to many people and will continue to do so in the future.
I have trained muay thai here for the past year. Tsunami has great people, strong instructors, and a respectful, welcoming environment. I love walking through the doors and leaving everything else behind to train. Highest possible recommendation if you live in the area and you want martial arts instruction.
I loved my time at Tsunami. Sadly, I had to move for work and I severely miss the people here. If you are interested in trying BJJ (or any other class), then I highly recommend you do it here, especially if you are hesitant or shy. All of the coaches, staff, and students are welcoming and are eager to help you learn. This place has the gamut of people that live their life for the sport to people that use it as a stress relieving hobby and there is no judgment on where you sit on this spectrum. As a bonus, this place and the people there helped me get into the best shape of my life.
Outstanding school. I can't say enough positive things about how conscientious and practical the coaches and staff are, or about how positive the environment is. As a business, they're thoughtful, well-organized, and have exceptional professional integrity. As instructors, they are technically excellent and focused entirely on students' growth. Tsunami really is its own family.
We have a son with Down syndrome and Coach Paul has him fit right in. The kids have fun but still learn about being a good person. It is not so strict that the kids cannot have fun. They do games but still learn about martial arts. It is wonderful to see kids of all ages, races, genders, types interacting together.
I love Tsunami Mixed Martial Arts! Owner Coach Paul and his amazing staff and coaching team is incredible. I've been a member for 2 years and am planning on being a member forever. I take cardio kickboxing and am extremely happy with my fitness level improvements and maintenance. I actually love going to workout!
Tsunami has been an integral part of our family for over 3 years now. They are kind, welcoming, professional, organized and talented. They don’t just teach martial arts well; they teach being a good citizen. Our daughter has learned so much. The parents can kick box or do Muay Thai. Even during the COVId 19 pandemic they have been great at being safe, offering alternatives for virtual classes and communicating at a high level. We can’t recommend this gym enough. Coach Paul and his team have created a very special place in our community. If you’re shopping for an MMA gym for a child, yourself or both, you should definitely audition this one!
They have great instructors and really care. Throughout the pandemic they've been professional, worked to move online with minimal disruption and made classes fun for my 5 year old (who hates zoom!), then were very responsible when they moved back to in-person instruction. We love Tsunami!
Tsunami is not a “meathead” martial arts gym. They train hard, but with safety and the spirit of martial arts deeply ingrained in everything they do. Integrity, hard work, and talented trainers with enough certifications to make OSHA proud. I’m beyond pleased with their system and coaches. Highest recommendation to the Decatur area
Love the team and my experience at Tsunami MMA! My wife introduced me to the gym for kickboxing classes and we had a wonderful time working out during the classes. The gym owners and trainers did an excellent job of taking individualized time with people during class to make sure your technique can improve and how to get better. We haven't been in a while because we moved to a different neighborhood farther away, but I would love to get back there to see the new location and cross-train. If you're considering visiting or joining the gym, absolutely do it. You'll feel great, stronger, and learn some excellent skills for both self-defense and overall health and wellness.
Instructors are patient and connected well with all students. I learned a lot and had fun doing so. My daughter enjoyed her class as well. Paul is amazing with the children.
Absolutely love this place! There is something here for the entire family. While my son was in jiu jitsu I did kick boxing. I always tone up quickly doing kick boxing. The entire staff is skilled and knowledgable of their craft. I highly recommend it.
My daughters (10 & 8) have been practicing Brazilian jiu-jitsu for over 2 years at Tsunami. The coaches are very accomplished and professional. They know how to teach skills in a fun and rigorous format that my girls really enjoy. I am amazed with the complexity of this sport and how well the coaches adjust their instruction to teach the diverse ages, abilities, and personalities in the children's classes. Aside from learning jiu-jitsu, both my children and I have really appreciated the strong, supportive relationships we have developed with the Tsunami staff and other attending families. If you are considering signing up for Brazilian jiu-jitsu, Taekwondo, or kickboxing, definitely give Tsunami a try with the free trial period offer.
We have two children enrolled at Tsunami for two years now. They continue to provide outstanding martial arts training as well as focus on the importance of responsibility and respect in all aspects of life. It is clear that they care about their work and providing a well-rounded experience for students and parents. Keep up the great work!
This place is awesome! The coaches are good. My 10 year old daughter have been having a lot of fun here and learned a lot of TDK from a beginner. She goes there 4 times a week, without missing any class except the Saturday one when she has another class to take.
Very friendly atmosphere and knowledgeable staff. It’s a new gym that is still establishing a name for itself, but all you have to do is walk in a see for yourself the dozens of medals and competition belts in the hallway. Very skilled BJJ instructors.
I can't say enough about how awesome this place is. I was a member for a year and the kickboxing classes helped me to lose 40 pounds last year! The only reason I left is because I moved out of state. The coaches are friendly and motivating and the owner Paul makes everyone feel welcome. Thank you for everything Tsunami!
I tried a few different places to start training BJJ. I chose this place for a few reasons. 1) Everyone in the class from the instructor to fellow students are awesome and very helpful. 2) They've got a lot of different classes if I want to try anything else. At the moment it's just bjj but I can see myself taking a few others just to try them out. 3) They have a number of different bjj classes for varying skill levels. 4) The place is small enough to feel like a local gym but large enough to attract a diverse group of folks. Most importantly, the bjj classes aren't huge but there are still quite a few folks in every one. 5) The support staff was welcoming and friendly from the time I walked up til now. There are quite a few folks that I've talked with who are much more experienced and skilled (in bjj) than I am and they give the place a thumbs up.
I decided to give Tsunami a try after my boyfriend who does jiu jitsu there (and loves it!) told me about cardio kickboxing classes. I considered myself a pretty fit person so I wasn’t intimidades by the class, little did I know the class was absolutely brutal. It was SUCH a good workout! It was extremely challenging because all of the coaches at Tsunami push you to your limits because they want you to get stronger and better. Since then, I’ve been going 4-5 times per week because I LOVE their classes! The coaches are great people who are passionate about what they do. They’re so helpful and they really do care about you. I’ve had nothing but wonderful experiences at this martial arts gym and I can guarantee you that you won’t regret joining it! Not only are the coaches wonderful, but the owner is also super kind. The place is very clean and all of the students are kind, helpful, and friendly. If you’re reading reviews to decide if you want to join the gym or not, DO IT! It’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I feel so much stronger and healthier since joining just a month ago!
My children and I have been training at Tsunami MMA for over a year now. Everyone is encouraging and positive and the gym is very beginner and family friendly, in addition to being able to coach more experienced or advanced student. The kids are learning valuable skills like, discipline, perseverance, character, and self defense in addition to staying active and having fun. My kids really love going here. As an adult who has never been particularly athletic, this year has been one of development. The coaches have been motivating the entire way and now I have my eye competing. As soon as the kids feel ready, they will be competing too. They have adult classes for Taekwondo, Muay Thai, BJJ, and cardio kickboxing and kids classes in Taekwondo and BJJ. Tsunami is a family friendly gym that is very welcoming.
Tsunami is a great place that offers a variety of disciplines, with something for everyone. I take cardio kickboxing and get an intense workout. There’s also Taekwondo, with separate classes for kids and adults. The children’s classes involve serious training but also seem fun, and the kids appear to love it. During the summer, there’s a martial arts camp aimed at kids. On top of this, Tsunami offers Muay Thai Kickboxing and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for kids and adults, so there’s something always going on. The instructors all know their stuff and are friendly and personable. If you want to delve into martial arts or just keep fit, you can’t go wrong with Tsunami Mixed Martial Arts.
Paul has created a beautiful sense of community with this gym. Whether you're a newbie or a seasoned expert, this is an ideal place to train, learn, and to have fun with wonderful people in the process. It's also super hard to top the awesome team of instructors...each of them are 100% dedicated, knowledgable, and above all else, personable and very fun to be around.
I've known the owners for years and the people that train there. They are great people.
